Hostess (Judy I think), has offended me on both occasions I have been there. She is abrupt, rude as hell, and should be sitting at home yelling at her husband or grandkids because it obvious she doesn't get enough of that during the day. I have lived most of my life in Utah, with extended stops in Texas, the east coast, and southern California. I believe I am a reasonable judge of Mexican food as I have visited many resturants, and have had many Hispanic friends whom I have broken bread with in their and my home....this resturant fails when it comes to the cuisine. The place seems clean which is refreshing and the service isn't bad, but with better options not too far away this place should be avoided.

Ehhh. I wish I could say this place was good. But it wasn't. Aside from the over all meal not being good I was most disappointed with the Chilli Verde. It was disgusting! Felt like I ate a burrito with only green chillies and nothing else. Will not be returning.

5 Fing Greaness! Food= Delicious & fresh EVERY time! Whatever dish you like, you'll love it here. Get it smothered in their famous white sauce. Try their house specials. Cost = Very good prices, especially considering their high quality! Cheaper than Chili's, & WAY mo betta. Service = Genuinely friendly, helpful, kind people. Come here if you're having a rough day, cuz they'll make you feel better. Atmosphere = Casual, comfortable, AND they play Mexican music, imagine that. Overall = Great local place, you'll be glad you came.

This homey place is a safe bet for some pretty decent Mexican food, gringo style. You can't go wrong with the chimichanga smothered in chili verde. This baby is HUGE and could easily be split between two people with cheesy rice and beans on the side. There is something for everyone on their menu. Chips and house salsa (green is spicy and red is mild) are tasty and they keep the refills coming. Some of the friendliest servers around and fast service, too. They also have Mexican bottled beer if that's your thing.

Today we had the bean and cheese burritos and the chicken quesadilla. Both were good, nothing special. Our water cups were dirty so we didn't drink the water.

This is the first restaurant where I've been seated and would not order I was so disgusted. Food on the ceiling, flies, cups turned upside down on tables. The salsa was made of a tomato paste mash that was disgusting - the worst I've ever had. The chip baskets were literally covered in dirt.

Good food and very nice people running this place. The portions are huge and the prices are reasonable. They have a nice selection of beer too.

Our go to spot for gringo Mexican food. Tonight I had two enchiladas, one chicken one cheese, and was happy to find that I could choose a side salad instead of rice and beans. Another favorite is the Fiesta Grande Salad with carnitas or the chicken enchilada/ chile relleno combo. The flan is delicious as are the sopapillas. A couple of times a week they have free nonalcoholic margaritas and my kids love the strawberry ones. They are just completing a renovation with new decor, carpet, blinds, etc.

This is our favorite Mexican in the area. It is very Americanized and I have had people join me who didn't love it for that reason. However, some things here can't be beat. The fajita grande salads are huge and amazing! We also love the shredded beef burritos, carne asada burritos and steak/ shrimp grilled fajita burritos. I haven't heard great things about the cheese enchiladas but other than that, everything is yum.

How is this place still in business. Worse than Taco Bell, and twice as salty, and less authentic. I'm serious.

Lac Cocina is Mexican food in the sam vein as Mi Ranchito or Los Hermanos; definitely not totally authentic, but tasty with big portions. The servers are always super nice, the food always comes fast (even when they're busy), and I've never been disappointed with a meal. Order anything with shredded beef in it and you won't be disappointed. It's a little spicy and a lot delicious.

Great little Americanized Mexican restaurant. Very similar to others around the valley. I've eaten here a few times and never was disappointed. But also never amazed. It's good. Solid 3 stars.

My mom likes this place so i go with here for lunches. She likes how clean it is and the 2 types of salsa. I believe greeks own this joint but they do a good mexican meal. Everything is cheesy and saucy, which I love, I hate dry food. Service is killer. Everything I have had here is good. The chicken soup is the best I have had, squeeze a little lemon and you will be hooked! Full bar too.

I have driven by this restaurant on several occasions so I decided to try it. First our server had NO idea what kind of mole it was when I asked. She could barely answer my sisters menu questions as well. The menu was basic and the food was worse. This is no frills, cheap, tasteless Mexican I wouldn't subject anyone to.

We tried 3 other restaurants before we ended up here (closed and too full). I had seen the parking lot full every time I'd driven by and since we felt like nachos and were close we decided to try it. We had the complimentary chips and salsas (red and green). A half order of the Macho Nachos and seafood enchiladas. The chips were tasty but the salsa was pretty flavorless. Neither had kick and there just wasn't much to them. The Nachos were huge (and we ordered the half). They were very generous with the toppings but again very bland and the flavors didn't come together. The seafood enchiladas came recommended by the waitress and unfortunately we both found them to be lacking. They had more flavor than the other dishes but there was just something weird. It was served with a kind of creamy salsa verde type of sauce on top. Not PC but this was very "white" Mexican food. It's what you'd imagine to get from a housewife in the 50's that just learned about this new thing called 'Mexican food'. I did not see a single Hispanic looking person in the restaurant not a must but I noticed. They did seem to have a large elderly clientele. Good prices for food portion, friendly staff, kid friendly, decent bathrooms and parking but the food quality was just missing. (note the "full menu" on the restaurant profile is not their menu)

Store bought tortillas and Sub par burritos. I could have made a better burrito at home. Not coming back.

Salsa runs thick through my pale white veins. I'm a fan of Mexican Food, not always the Utah variety. But sometimes if you look hard enough through the snow and clouds of the Wasatch there shines a bright light in Mexican Food like La Cocina. Utah Mexican food often lacks mexicaness... The high altitude must keep locals from liking a lot of spice and sometimes any flavor at all. La Cocina's recipe book tastes like it was cooked up on the wind swept prairies of Texas not the spice free hills of Utah. I almost always get the tacos, their chicken and carne asada tacos are great. They're served in a soft shell and they're usually dripping with flavor (or maybe its grease?). And like all taco plates should be, they're loaded up with not one, not two, but three giant tacos. They're loaded up with cheese and there's lettuce, tomatoes and guacamole on the side to garnish them with. Like all proper Mexican dishes, there is a great Mexican rice and RE-FRIED BEANS!! on the side. Did I mention they have re-fried beans? Don't give me that "they aren't fresh" bit, re-fried is the best and as far as I'm concerned the only way to get your beans at a Mexican restaurant. I swear they have a whole menu full of stuff but I get the tacos every time. I know I've seen enchiladas, salads, and the whole other ensemble of Mexican food. They have a mean looking cold case up front full of a variety of beers. Matter a fact, their bottled beer selection for a table service restaurant in the burbs is actually pretty impressive. If I had one comment, it would be the red salsa is horrible. Its really sweet, really thin and has zero spice. Its just pureed tomatoes and what tastes like sugar. Thankfully they have a green salsa that is awesome. The chip bowls are small but thankfully they keep them coming if you keep eating them. Sometimes you find little gems like La Cocina in the unlikeliest of places like a side street in Cottonwood Heights. I give it an A in my book and its a shining spicy light in the sad flavorless world of most Utah Mexican restaurants.

I have been eating at La Cocina for 28 years and have never been disappointed. They have my style of Mexican food! The service is always great, I've never had a bad meal there (and I've had hundreds), and I LOVE their cheese enchiladas. That is my favorite Mexican dish, but I've tried other things. I also love their steak fajitas and everything else on their menu that isn't something I don't like in general. My family goes there even more than I do. For Mexican food, I really don't care to go anywhere else. Their prices are reasonable, especially for what you get. Whenever I go somewhere else with friends, I don't necessarily hate it, but I don't see what all the hype is about. Nowhere lives-up to the food at La Cocina. It may not look as fancy as some places, but it's clean and the food wins every time!

Great neighborhood restaurant for quality mexican food. The parking can sometimes be tricky (their lot is TINY), and the decor is tacky, but the food makes up for it. Most recently, a friend and I stopped here after a yoga class. I always get the chile relleno and it is delicious, never-fail. I am also a fan of their chips and the 2 kinds of salsa they serve you upon being seated. I only wish they were open on Sunday!

Combo fajitas (steak & chicken) was a good choice: hot, well-plated, with 4 tortillas/ beans/guacamole/ and a generous portion of the fluffiest Spanish rice I've ever had... [...Truthfully? I've never really been a fan of seasoned rice fare at Tex-Mex joints, but I polished-off every last morsel. Flavorful, not overpowered with red chile powder, not gloppy or sticky.] My wife and her mum shared a 3 carnitas taco plate, and were quite satisfied. Complementary chips and salsa (red & green) are delivered fresh to your table as you are seated; a tasty diversion while browsing the menu. Restaurant was clean, brightly decorated, and staffed with an energetic/über-friendly staff. Our waitress, 'Laiken,' was quick, caring, and attentive; she also has a voice reminiscent of 'Bernadette' from the Big Bang Theory, which was certainly a plus. (...for me, anyway.) All in all, an enjoyable, relaxed, first visit to a very good Mexican eatery. Bravo & Olè, La Cocina!

I like the food here. You get good portion sizes and the service is friendly. I have never had a problem here. The only reason I give a 4 is because I have had better Mexican food. For example Lonestar Taqueria down the street. There salsa is really good here though also.

Worst Mexican Restaurant in the valley. I just spent $112 for 4 adults and 2 kids. No drinks. They charge for everything. Our bill was a foot long. The chili verde was out of a can Horrible, the waitress warned us it was bad.

Good, cheap, "american mexican" food. This place serves all the standard Mexican dishes that you find in the USA; you know, all the stuff that was actually invented in the US but we call Mexican anyway. It's funny how much all the components of the dishes are alike, just arranged in different combinations. Tortilla+Meat+Beans+Cheese+Rice+Lettuce re-arranged in different ways. The Fajita's are good but I prefer Pistol Pete's nearby. Burritos, Tacos, Tostadas; all good but pretty basic. Enchiladas however are awesome. Nothing fancy just the basics like you had growing up at home. One thing I have noticed is that anything with the ground beef is subpar. Get "steak" or "shredded beef". Also like most Mexican places the side dishes seem like an afterthought and really not that good. On a more positive side I like the good selection of Mexican branded beers available to go with dinner, whenever I stop by for lunch I'm so tempted to get a beer before heading back to work. So if you're craving Mexican and want to step up from Betos and Taco Bell, but not looking for the authentic Mexican Moles either; then stop by here for a simple shredded beef enchilada, smothered in cheese and enchilada sauce.

Go elsewhere! I had been a long-time customer when I lived nearby. I came back into town and what a shame this place sucks so badly now! My order came wrong, when I asked the waitress to correct it, she went in the back and came out telling her that her manager was not willing to make the correct dish (it came vegetarian rather than with chicken), but I could pay for a new one. She offered to pay since her manager would not correct the mistake made in the kitchen (I declined for either of us to pay for another meal and did not eat the incorrect meal). Nor would the manager come to my table or the cashier kiosk to look me in the eye or even apologize for the incorrect meal. Don't waste your money on a business that would treat their customers, as well as their employees in such a callous and disrespectful manner.

For a big pile of cheesy, greasy Mexican food (which is a good thing) this place will never let you down. Quality is good, excellent service, and the portions are enough for two people and then some (especially if you're like me and eat way too much chips and salsa before the meal arrives). Being a Pepsi fan, I really appreciate that they have both Coke and Pepsi products. Also, Tuesdays and Saturdays have free virgin margaritas. This place is worth trying out. I go at least once a month and am always happy.

I will start off this review by saying this is one of my most frequented restaurants. It was near where I lived for 6 years, cheap, tons of food, and friendly service. This place doesn't have the most amazing mexican food on the planet, but its pretty solid. I suppose it depends on the kind of mexican food lover you are, are you used to "grandma's mexican food" or restaurants? Grandma had it all right in my book.. never too much sauce or cheese. this place usually over does it in both. their salsa is really good though. not ketchupy. knowing what to order here is also helpful. If you don't want a greasy cheesy mess of a plate get fajitas or chile verde. the chile verde is a bit ugly but its delish.

I wanted this place to be good since it's the closest mexican restaurant to my house, but it just wasnt that special, It's just kind of a white washed bland version of mexican food. The place looks like it's been around for a long time and the help is nice, I'm sure they'll get by ok without me. Somebody put that it's alot of refried beans smothered in cheese thats pretty accurate!

I only give this place two stars because I have had much better Mexican food. But it's not very expensive and the portions are enormous.

My favorite place for Mexican eating! We used to frequent their State St. Location in Downtown, and then even when they moved to North Salt Lake. I think this is their only location now, but still good as ever. I don't know a menu item that is bad. All dishes are reasonably priced, and I usually get the Combo Fajitas, or the Grande Quesidilla. I'm always full, and the service is usually prompt.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
